Message from the president
Welcome to the American Association of Pediatric Urologists website!
Our next meeting is January 20-24th, 2015, at the Fairmont Château Lake Louise in Alberta, Canada and will be led by our President, Dr. Joseph Ortenberg
Some remarks from Dr. Ortenberg:
What do I value most about the AAPU?
- The annual meeting where members exchange information in a structured but open forum. The AAPU conference provides a unique opportunity to review clinical issues or ongoing research with colleagues in an informal setting and to receive valuable input.
- The friends I have made at the annual meetings – each year has special features and memories.
Our 2014 conference at Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic was outstanding, and Brad Kropp deserves special acknowledgment. The sessions covered topics from all aspects of Pediatric Urology and once again, Bob DeFoor did an excellent job of arranging CME credit through the Cincinnati Children's Hospital. This year's recipient of the AAPU Research Award is Blake Palmer, MD, from the University of Oklahoma for a project entitled TheraCran chewable cranberry tablets for the prevention of UTIs in children: a randomized controlled trial. We look forward to hearing an update with preliminary results of this research at the 2015 winter meeting.
The venue for the 2015 conference is the Fairmont Château Lake Louise. This elegant, spacious hotel is a UNESCO heritage site within the Rocky Mountains of Canada - renovated but with unique charm. The setting is unparalleled for the magnificent countryside and the variety of winter activities within Banff National Park, including superb skiing. The Ice Carving Festival takes place the weekend before the meeting, so arriving a day early would allow you to watch this special competition, and the ice sculptures/ palace will be on display during the AAPU meeting.
Access to Lake Louise is straightforward with many nonstop flights to Calgary followed by a direct drive on the TransCanada Highway. Once again, we will benefit from the expertise of Maureen McCarthy who provides invaluable assistance with transportation, lodging and local activities, such as an afternoon visit to the town of Banff. We hope that Canadian members of the AAPU will make a special effort to attend, as we are bring the meeting to their homeland!
Our group has access to the best value rooms, but the block of rooms at this special rate may be reduced as the meeting draws closer. Don't delay - make plans to attend and book your room now!
