Message from the president
Dear AAPU Members,
It is with great pleasure, excitement, honor and humility that I write this letter as the president of the American Association of Pediatric Urologists. This organization has such an unbelievable history and tradition. It started as a small travel group of “young” pediatric urologist and grew to a vibrant authoritative voice representing both “new young” and now “old young” pediatric urologist. It seems odd to me that I represent the “middle” aged pediatric urologist, but to this end I hopefully will be able to serve all of you honorably.
George Steinhardt left me with big shoes to fill after a spectacular meeting in Jackson Hole. The exchange of ideas, techniques, adventures down the slopes and thoughts always make this by far the best meeting of the year. At the end of the meeting, I knew that I was really the next president of this group as George handed off the projector for me to carry forth to the next meeting. With projector in hand, I want to encourage all of you to attend the 27th annual meeting of the AAPU at the Casa De Campo, Dominican Republic. I have coined this meeting as the “Intertidal” Conference, the Zone between Medical Knowledge and Exciting Activities.
Now some of you may think that just because this resort has the highest ranked golf course in the Caribbean and top 50 in the World (Teeth of the Dog golf course ranked as one of the Top 50 Courses in the last 50 Years by Golf Digest) that this is going to be a golfers only trip. But let me assure you that the 5 -7 days spent at this resort will not be enough to do all the activities available for the golfer and non-golfer alike. Casa De Campo is considered the Caribbean’s most complete resort. Having just completed a $40 million total re-design which features 185 all-new Elite rooms and suites. A tropical paradise with average temperatures of 80°F, Casa de Campo is the perfect destination for leisure travel, golf outings, sports events, and Pediatric Urology groups, offering the ideal blend of refined service and sophisticated luxury for the elite traveler. From the rolling hills, spectacular views and cultural atmosphere of the artist village of Altos de Chavon, to crashing waves against seaside holes of the Teeth of the Dog or the adrenaline rush of a polo game and the adventure of a live bird hunt, to the tranquility of a lazy afternoon by the beach or massage at the Spa. Additionally, there are Family Programs for all ages, which will allow the parents with younger children to take full advantage of all the activities. Basically, Casa de Campo has it all! http://www.casadecampo.com.do/aapu
Maureen McCarthy and her group at Global Meeting Solutions are helping with all of the arrangements. Maureen is a wonderful person and will make sure that things are done right. Because this destination is very popular during this time of year, I suggest that everyone make reservations as soon as possible. email@example.com
In closing, I would like to thank Bob DeFoor for all of his help “herding” this pack of young and old pediatric urologist around the world. He has truly been the backbone of this organization for the last several years and it has been a pleasure to work with him. So remember the area where water and land meet is considered the intertidal zone and the area where Medical Knowledge meets Exciting Activities is where we all learn the most.
Look forward to see you all at the Intertidal Conference in Casa De Campo!!!
